There is a significant rebate incentive structure of between 32.5% (12.5 on overall local spend + additional 20% key technical human resources) to 55% (35% on local overall local spend + additional 20% on key technical human resources)
Trinidad & Tobago remains committed to expanding its film and animation industry by attracting international productions and strengthening local capabilities. As part of this commitment, the Government of Trinidad & Tobago has extended the Film Rebate Programme for another three years (2025-2027) to further stimulate investment and industry growth.
The Film Rebate Programme and Film Commission Services continue to play a crucial role in making T&T a competitive and attractive filming destination. Here’s what you need to know:
About the Film Rebate Programme
The Film Rebate Programme is a government-backed incentive designed to refund a percentage of qualifying production expenses incurred in Trinidad & Tobago. The goal is to attract international productions, create jobs, and boost economic activity across multiple sectors.
Rebate Structure:
* Up to 35% rebate on eligible local production costs
* Additional 20% rebate for hiring local cast & crew
* Applies to feature films, TV series, documentaries, commercials, and animation
This initiative enhances T&T’s competitiveness as a filming destination while ensuring that productions contribute directly to the local economy.
Eligibility
The rebate is open to both local and international production companies that meet the minimum spend requirement.
Budget Requirement (International)
* US$100,000–$499,999 Budget → 12.5% rebate + 20% for local labour
* US$500,000–$999,999 Budget → 15% rebate + 20% for local labour
* US$1,000,000–$8,000,000 Budget → 35% rebate + 20% for local labour
Budget Requirement (Local)
* TTD$100,000–$8,000,000 Budget → 35% rebate + 20% for local labour
Eligible Expenses:
* Crew wages, T&T rentals, T&T accommodations
* Pre-production, production, and post-production costs
Application Process:
1. Provisional Application - Pre-approval application submission
2. Budget & expenditure provisional approval
3. Production and local expenditure tracking
4. Post-production audit by applicant
5. Final Application - Rebate claim submission (inclusive of all required documents)
6. Rebate Audit (by the Ministry of Trade and Industry) & Rebate Panel Review
7. Rebate disbursement (avg. processing time: 6-8 months)
