The Animae Caribe Animation & Digital Media Festival in collaboration with Caribbean Export , the American Embassy Port of Spain and soon to be launched C15 Studios invite writers from the Caribbean and the Diaspora to join Project Re-Root!
The call for stories and concepts for animated series that connects the Caribbean and the diaspora. These concepts will encompass stories that travelled the world throughout history, which have now evolved into cultural reminders of our deep-rooted connections. These stories were never told through authentic voices, therefore Animae Caribe Festival will be the conduit for the re-rooting, re-examining and restructuring of our past present and future, through storytelling and technology. With the support of animation director Jamaal Bradley and local and regional storytellers, several online sessions will be conducted to support the development of the stories to take to the next level.
Project Re-Root is the highlight of Animae Caribe ‘Toon Marketplace’, the industry-focused forum that runs October 28 to 29th, 2021. The Toon Markeplace first took place six years ago with the support of Caribbean Export Development Agency and Caribbean Development Bank and CARICOM. Over the years there has been consistent development of IP concepts, the intention now is to take these new stories to the developmental and production stage. Our catalogue of IP has been tested at Kidscreen for the last 5 years and in 2019 in Europe for the 4th CARIFORUM- EU Business Forum.
Twelve ideas will be selected and partnered with illustrators to create a Pitch Deck and the opportunity to meet with producers in our AC Toonmarketplace. Participants will also win prizes and packages from Animae Caribe partners, and online workshops courtesy of Animae Caribe. Project Re-Root! is open to creators from the Caribbean and the Diaspora spanning demographics for adult and children series. We encourage content that includes historical stories both fiction and non-fiction, super hero characters that represent the history of the shared experiences in all genres.
New writers are encouraged.

“For our 20th Anniversary we really wanted to make a huge statement that demonstrates tangible outcomes over the years. The Project Re-Root and other amazing events at Animae Caribe 2021, were designed to encourage global participation and to make AC21 the preferred festival destination. It will continue to be a space for networking, screening and industry exposure, but also an amazing opportunity to experience the Caribbean #islandlifebliss culminating into 3 Days of conferences, screenings, receptions and a blended on island and VR closing ceremony on the Island of Tobago”
– Camille Selvon Abrahams, AC Founding Director.
The partnership with C15 Studios is very timely. One of the first operations to offer cash-flow solutions to companies servicing the Creative sector, this partnership is a critical link between the Caribbean Creative sector and the Financial sector. The American Embassy, an official partner in this initiative collaborated with Animae Caribe in 2020 to start the process. All parties are now working hand in hand to take the Caribbean Creative economy to the world.
